Lufthansa Technik will provide component services to Saudi Arabia’s Airbus fleet

Transforming into a Centre of Excellence, the MRO community is setting industry standards. Providing Total Component Support to Saudia's Airbus A320 and A330 fleet

Lufthansa Technik services Saudi Arabia’s large fleet in addition to Boeing 777 and 787 aircraft

With an emphasis on Saudia’s Airbus fleet, Saudia Technic and Lufthansa Technik inked a ten-year Total Component Support (TCS) contract at the Dubai Airshow. The cooperation extends Lufthansa Technik’s continued supply of parts to Saudia’s Boeing fleet, which started at the start of this year. Commencing in January 2024, the companies are launching a combined training programme as a significant extension of their collaboration. This extensive programme demonstrates the dedication to improving operational effectiveness and quality in the aviation sector.

Aircraft included in the now-completed TCS contract are 31 A330 and 53 A320 models. All of them benefit from Saudia Technic’s round-the-clock access to Lufthansa Technik’s worldwide component pool. For time-sensitive components, the TCS offers Aircraft on Ground (AOG) support, which ensures the quickest delivery possible. The collaboration will complement Saudia Technic’s own resources and greatly boost its technical activities. Lufthansa Technik now maintains 18 Boeing 787 aircraft (13 787-9 and five 787-10), in addition to 39 Boeing 777 aircraft (35 777-300ER and four 777F).

Fahd H. Cynndy, Chief Executive Officer of Saudia Technic, said, “Due to the excellent experience with Lufthansa Technik with regard to the Total Component Support for our Boeing fleet, we didn’t hesitate to also award the contract for our Airbus fleet to them. We look forward to expanding our close partnership even further.”

Harald Gloy, Chief Operating Officer of Lufthansa Technik, said: “We are very honored to also support the Airbus fleet for Saudia Technic. Our cooperation is based on decades of a trustful relationship which we are more than happy to continue. We are delighted to service our partner Saudia Technic on its growth path in the next years.”

In a number of technological fields, the Lufthansa Technik company and Saudia Technic have a history of fruitful business collaborations growing the collaboration with a new cooperative training initiative.

In order to further establish a robust and long-lasting collaboration, Lufthansa Technik Middle East (LTME), situated in Dubai, will welcome technicians from Saudia Technic for an immersive training experience. This is the next phase in the newly announced MRO Community of Excellence. They will be able to learn more about the working culture, guiding principles, and operations of Lufthansa Technik thanks to this chance. Beginning in January 2024, the technicians will be stationed at LTME for a rigorous three-month training term as part of the training programme. They will have the opportunity to experience directly a variety of aircraft component repair, with a particular focus on nacelle components repair technology. This exposure will facilitate knowledge transfer and further strengthen the bond between the two companies.

The ultimate goal of this endeavour is to strengthen the alliance and encourage the two organisations to share best practises and knowledge. Following the first three months, the technicians will travel to the Lufthansa Technik centre located in Germany. They will carry on with their training there, picking up knowledge in every area and taking part in a variety of courses.
