Lufthansa Technik Philippines breaks ground on new widebody MRO facility at Clark International Airport

Lufthansa Technik Philippines has officially broken ground on a new widebody maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Clark International Airport, marking a major expansion of its operations in the Philippines and strengthening its position as a key player in the global aviation maintenance industry.

The new base maintenance facility will be built on a 157,000-square-metre site and will complement the company’s existing operations at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, approximately 100 kilometres away. Supported by an investment worth hundreds of millions of dollars, the facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2028 and is expected to create around 1,200 highly skilled jobs.

Designed to significantly increase Lufthansa Technik Philippines’ maintenance capacity, the Clark facility will feature a dedicated paint shop, non-destructive testing workshops and other advanced support capabilities. During its construction and operational ramp-up, the company will leverage the expertise and established processes developed over more than 25 years at its Manila facility.

The expansion comes as global demand for aircraft maintenance services continues to grow. As Lufthansa Technik’s worldwide competence centre for widebody aircraft, Lufthansa Technik Philippines currently specialises in the maintenance of Airbus A330, A340 and A380 aircraft, as well as the Boeing 777. The new Clark facility will also enable the company to add Airbus A350 and Boeing 787 aircraft to its maintenance portfolio.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, which was attended by project partners as well as government and industry representatives, Soeren Stark, Chief Executive Officer of Lufthansa Technik and Chairman of the Board of Lufthansa Technik Philippines, said the investment reflects the company’s long-term growth strategy.

“Lufthansa Technik is significantly expanding its footprint across the Asia-Pacific region and around the globe. Given the future potential of the MRO market, building a second site in the Philippines is one of the consequences of our growth strategy. It is the right step at the right time—we are creating the capacity today that commercial airlines will need by tomorrow at the latest. Our new facility in Clark will play a crucial role in the aviation industry, both in the fast-growing Asia-Pacific market and beyond,” Stark said.

Holger Beck, President and CEO of Lufthansa Technik Philippines, described the project as a long-term commitment to the country and its aviation sector.

“This investment is about much more than a new facility. It is a commitment to the next 25 years, and hopefully many more. It reflects our confidence in the Philippines, in the talent of the Filipino people, and in the strong partnerships we have developed and nurtured over the last decades,” Beck said.

He also thanked the company’s partners, customers, employees, and stakeholders for their continued support as Lufthansa Technik Philippines embarks on its next phase of growth.
