Lufthansa Technik introduces government cabin for the ACJ TwoTwenty jet

Lufthansa Technik introduces government cabin for the ACJ TwoTwenty jet.
The ACJ TwoTwenty design incorporates various features to enhance comfort, functionality, security, and privacy.

The tailored design on the ACJ 220 jet will meet the requirements of government and military operators prioritizing both interior functionality and the ability to perform specialized tasks.

Lufthansa Technik AG has revealed a sneak peek of the design for a government cabin based on the Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) TwoTwenty, the smallest aircraft in the ACJ lineup. This specially tailored design aims to meet the unique requirements of government and military operators who prioritize both interior functionality and the ability to perform specialized tasks. The MedEvac (Medical Evacuation) role, currently in high demand, serves as a prime example of the aircraft’s versatility. Lufthansa Technik’s interior design offers a highly customizable solution for these operators.

The ACJ TwoTwenty design incorporates various features to enhance comfort, functionality, security, and privacy. It includes divisible areas for working, conferencing, and sleeping, catering to political dignitaries. Additionally, the standard configuration features a spacious delegation area comprising twelve Premium Economy Class and twenty Economy Class seats. With this configuration, the aircraft can accommodate up to forty-one passengers, a significant increase compared to conventional business jets at comparable prices.

In the MedEvac configuration, the ACJ TwoTwenty can accommodate up to eight stretchers for transporting lightly and moderately injured or ill patients. Alternatively, it can accommodate two new-generation Patient Transport Units (PTU NG) for intensive care patients. Mixed configurations combining stretchers and PTU NGs are also possible. With the additional tanks of the ACJ variant, the Lufthansa Technik-equipped A220 configuration can achieve an impressive range of up to 5,650 nautical miles (10,460 kilometers).

Wieland Timm, Head of Sales for Special Mission Aircraft, Lufthansa Technik said, “With its cabin dimensions, the ACJ TwoTwenty represents an optimal platform for the most diverse manifestations of future government and special mission aircraft, at the price of significantly smaller and less flexible aircraft types. With our expertise in VIP completion and special mission modifications, we are able to meet the high demands of governments and armed forces with highly individualized solutions. Based on this initial concept, we look forward to engaging with potential customers in the near future.”

Lufthansa Technik plans to showcase its vision of the highly flexible A220 government cabin, as well as its expertise in the MedEvac and special mission sectors, at the European Business Aviation Conference and Exhibition (EBACE) in Geneva, Switzerland, and the International Defense and Security Exhibition (IDET) in Brno, Czech Republic. In 2019, the company also unveiled an exclusive and customizable VIP cabin concept for the Airbus A220, known as “SkyRetreat,” targeting a younger and private clientele. The SkyRetreat interior featured individual cabin monuments resembling a luxurious beach club or a yacht deck, along with an “observation lounge” providing a unique sense of space within a private jet.
