Lufthansa Cargo has expanded its operations with the introduction of its fourth Airbus A321 freighter, registration D-AEUJ, into its network. This addition completes the A321F fleet, bolstering the cargo carrier’s capacity to meet the increasing freight demands from its customers. The A321 freighter features 14 pallet and container positions on the main deck, along with ten on the lower deck, offering a total payload of 28 tons. This twin-engine medium-haul aircraft provides fast and flexible transportation solutions, serving both scheduled and charter operations.

Since its deployment in November, the A321 freighter has commenced operations to several destinations, including Istanbul, Helsinki, Stockholm, Birmingham, Dublin, Casablanca, Copenhagen, and Madrid. The aircraft, named “¡Hola España!”, has been particularly well-received in Spain.

Furthermore, Lufthansa Cargo expanded its A321F network to include Stavanger on November 23 2023. Stavanger, already part of the B777F network, is now served once a week by A321 freighters. The medium-haul freighter flies every Thursday from Frankfurt to Stavanger and returns via Copenhagen. This addition completes the connectivity of the Nordic countries within the A321F network.

“I am very pleased that with our latest additions we now connect all Nordic countries to the rest of the world with our A321 freighter fleet,” says Henning Oldendorf, Head of Sales and Handling Nordics & Baltics, Lufthansa Cargo.

As part of Lufthansa Cargo’s expansion strategy, the airline is continually optimizing its existing A321F network. The new winter flight schedule, effective from October 29 2023, has introduced two new destinations: Amman and Stockholm. Amman is now connected to the central cargo hub in Germany once a week, enhancing Lufthansa Cargo’s presence in the Middle East. Stockholm Arlanda, a crucial hub for pharmaceutical and temperature-sensitive goods, is served three times a week, contributing to the efficient transportation of critical cargo.

“In total, we will serve 18 destinations in the short- and medium-haul network on more than 32 weekly flights with Airbus A321 freighters,” said Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo. “The high demand and the very positive feedback from our customers confirm our strategy to further expand our capacity and offer with the fast connections of the A321F operations. In addition, we are constantly evaluating our route network to create and adapt new capacities,” he further added.
