The 910th Airlift Wing, operating C-130 Hercules since 1981, has managed various variants over the past 40 years.

Lockheed Martin delivers advanced C-130J to Ohio, expanding mission capabilities with aerial spray and tactical support.  

Lockheed Martin delivered the first of eight C-130J-30 Super Hercules tactical airlifters to Ohio’s Youngstown Air Reserve Station. Consequently, This marks the addition of a new mission capability for the Super Hercules: the aerial spray mission. Furthermore, The 910th Airlift Wing uniquely maintains the Department of Defense’s only large area, fixed-wing aerial spray capability. Moreover, This capability is used to eliminate disease-carrying insects and pest insects, and to disperse oil spills in large bodies of water. Henceforth, Defined by its versatility, the C-130J Super Hercules now supports 19 unique mission capabilities.

Rod McLean, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin’s Air Mobility & Maritime Missions, said, “Lockheed Martin is honored to deliver the most advanced Super Hercules ever built to the 910th Airlift Wing, providing cutting-edge technology and enabling a critical mission for the U.S. Air Force Reserve. The C-130J is constantly evolving, as reflected with this 19th mission capability, ensuring the Super Hercules remains ready for what’s next through unmatched versatility and tactical airlift power.”

As a longstanding operator of the C-130 Hercules, the 910th Airlift Wing received its initial aircraft in 1981. Additionally, Over the past 40 years, the unit has operated various C-130 variants. Furthermore, The new fleet of C-130Js will sustain the unit’s tactical airlift and aerial spray mission, offering enhanced capabilities in space, speed, range, and versatility for future operations.

Maj. Gen. Melissa Coburn, 22nd Air Force commander, said,  “As we welcome the first C-130J aircraft to Youngstown Air Reserve Station, we mark a pivotal moment in our mission readiness. The C-130J Super Hercules stands as a symbol of our Air Force’s enduring strength and versatility, ensuring we continue to meet our nation’s needs with excellence.” 

The U.S. Air Force Reserve maintains a fleet comprising both C-130Js and legacy aircraft. Moreover, The inclusion of the C-130J Super Hercules enhances mission readiness, providing extensive reach and interoperability capabilities at all times.

The Super Hercules is a pioneering force, continually innovating and preparing for future challenges in tactical airlift missions. Globally, the C-130J fleet spans 26 operators across 22 nations and holds over 20 airworthiness certifications. With over 3 million flight hours logged among more than 545 C-130Js worldwide, the aircraft has gathered invaluable operational insights across various mission scenarios, enhancing its readiness for future endeavors.
