Liebherr-Aerospace has strengthened its collaboration with Boeing after securing a contract to supply brake remote electronic units (REUs) for the Boeing 777-8 Freighter, further expanding its portfolio of electronic systems across Boeing’s commercial aircraft programmes.
Under the agreement, Liebherr will provide one brake remote electronic unit for each Boeing 777-8 Freighter. The unit functions as a data concentrator within the aircraft’s braking system, supporting the new active brake monitoring system while meeting both European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements for latent failure detection.
The latest contract builds on Liebherr’s growing presence on Boeing platforms. In addition to the brake REU, the company also supplies the main landing gear steering control unit for the Boeing 777 and the nose wheel steering control unit for the Boeing 787, reinforcing its role as a key supplier of advanced electronic systems for commercial aircraft.
Liebherr said its remote electronic unit concept was first introduced in 2018 and has since evolved into a versatile platform capable of supporting system and position control, data concentration, monitoring and signal conversion. The modular design offers high reliability and can be adapted for a wide range of aerospace applications.

Dr. Klaus Schneider, CTO at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, said the latest contract represents an important milestone in the company’s long-standing relationship with Boeing.
“We have worked in close collaboration with our customer over the past decade. To be on board Boeing commercial airplanes with our electronic products is an important milestone for Liebherr,” Schneider said.
The brake remote electronic units are being developed and manufactured by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg GmbH in Lindenberg, Germany, in collaboration with CUONICS GmbH in Straubing. Meanwhile, the main gear steering control unit and the nose wheel steering control unit are produced jointly with Liebherr-Electronics and Drives GmbH in Lindau, Germany.
The agreement further strengthens Liebherr’s position as a supplier of advanced aircraft systems and highlights the increasing demand for intelligent electronic technologies that enhance aircraft safety, system monitoring and operational reliability across next-generation commercial aircraft programmes.
