Leonardo strengthens Latin America footprint with latest orders.
Leonardo's distributor for the AW09 single-engine model in Brazil, Gualter Helicopters has signed contracts for three aircraft intended for executive transport.

Leonardo appointed Gruppomodena S.A. as the distributor for AW119Kx, AW109 legacy, AW169, and AW139 helicopters and an order for AW109 GrandNew from a Brazilian operator.

Leonardo, a prominent player in the private helicopter transport market, solidified its leading position with the announcement of new contracts in Latin America during the LABACE 2023 event (8-10 August). The company’s strategic moves underscore its commitment to serving the region’s burgeoning demand for high-quality helicopter solutions. Through these strategic contracts and partnerships, Leonardo continues to demonstrate its dedication to delivering innovative, luxurious, and high-performance helicopter solutions that meet the evolving needs of the Latin American market and beyond.

One of the key developments is the appointment of Gruppomodena S.A. as the official distributor for Leonardo’s helicopter models, which include the AW119Kx, AW109 legacy, AW169, and AW139. This partnership encompasses the civil markets in Uruguay and Argentina. Gruppomodena S.A. has also inked a contract for the acquisition of two AW119Kx single-engine helicopters. Widely recognized as a significant player in Latin America’s helicopter services sector, Gruppomodena S.A. operates AW109 and AW139 helicopters for various roles, such as passenger and offshore transport, rescue missions, and is an authorized service center. This partnership sets the stage for enhanced accessibility and support for Leonardo’s helicopters in the region.

In a separate move, a private operator from Brazil has placed an order for an AW109 GrandNew light twin-engine helicopter, reinforcing the growing demand for Leonardo’s offerings in the Brazilian market. These helicopters are tailored for VIP transportation, boasting customized interiors to ensure a luxurious and comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Additionally, Leonardo’s distributor for the AW09 single-engine model in Brazil, Gualter Helicopters (Aero Service Representação), has signed contracts for three aircraft intended for executive transport. This achievement comes shortly after Gualter Helicopters was appointed as the distributor, following the company’s preliminary sales agreements for 20 units earlier this year. This enthusiasm from potential operators highlights the AW09’s appeal and anticipated success in the market. Acquired by Leonardo three years ago, the AW09 complements the company’s product portfolio, offering an innovative design to cater to the Long Light Single segment.

Leonardo’s robust presence in the twin-engine VIP/corporate helicopter market has earned it a significant 45% share over the past decade. With a diverse and modern product range, the company stands as the world leader in this sector, encompassing private, charter, and VVIP/Government transport services. With over 900 VIP/corporate helicopters from Leonardo currently in operation globally, Latin America accounts for approximately 25% of these aircraft.
