La Caisse and SMBC Aviation Capital are expanding their Maple Aircraft Company Holdings (MACH) aircraft leasing platform from $1.5 bn to $3 bn, increasing its capacity to finance new-technology and fuel-efficient aircraft through December 2029.
Launched in 2024, MACH has deployed its initial $1.5 bn commitment ahead of schedule and has built a portfolio of 21 aircraft leased to 13 airlines across 10 markets.
SMBC Aviation Capital will continue to source aircraft transactions for the platform and provide servicing for the portfolio. The expanded platform will focus on new-generation aircraft, which are increasingly being added to airline fleets as operators replace older aircraft and seek improved fuel efficiency.
Barry Flannery, Chief Commercial Officer of SMBC Aviation Capital, stated, “The successful deployment of MACH demonstrates the strength of our partnership with La Caisse and the continuing demand for flexible aircraft financing solutions. Expanding the platform with our trusted partner, La Caisse, positions us to build on this momentum and continue to support our airline customers worldwide with access to modern, fuel-efficient aircraft of the types that are most in demand.”
The expansion also has implications for the aviation aftermarket as more new-generation aircraft enter service through leasing platforms. These aircraft will require manufacturer-supported maintenance programmes, engine and component support, scheduled inspections and other technical services throughout their operating lives.
For lessors and airline operators, maintenance planning and asset management remain important factors in managing aircraft value. The age, configuration and maintenance status of leased aircraft can influence their residual value, lease transitions and future remarketing prospects.

Martin Longchamps, Executive Vice-President and Head of Private Equity and Private Credit at La Caisse, said, “MACH’s strong execution since 2024 demonstrates the value of bringing together specialized aviation expertise, deep industry relationships and patient long-term capital. With favourable long-term market dynamics and increasing demand for flexible financing solutions, MACH is well positioned to expand its portfolio and capitalize on attractive opportunities across the aviation leasing market.”
With the platform now targeting $3 bn, the growing portfolio will add further new-generation aircraft to the global leased fleet. As these aircraft accumulate flight hours, the expansion is expected to support demand across the wider aviation aftermarket, including airframe maintenance, engine MRO, component repair and aircraft technical support.
