Interactive travel map-Etihad’s way to boost passenger confidence in air travel

16 July 2020: After launching the risk assessment tool to evaluate the possibility of contacting COVID-19, Etihad Airways has now collaborated with Sitata to launch an interactive travel map. On one hand where the risk assessment tool helps to monitor the COVID-19 symptoms, the travel map gives a detailed overview of the COVID-19 situation at each travel destination. Thus the map is source of rich information which is easily accessible to passengers for making future travel plans.

Frank Meyer, Chief Digital Officer, Etihad Aviation Group said, “With travel restrictions beginning to ease in many destinations, we are keen to provide our guests with current information on COVID-19 related guidelines from the countries they plan to travel to. The current situation is still very volatile and dynamic, and with new guidelines being implemented on a daily basis – and sometimes even more frequently – it is important for us as an airline to support our guests with as much information as possible. Collaborating with Sitata to implement their travel alert map on etihad.com is yet another initiative, amongst several others, that is being implemented to ensure the continuous safety and wellbeing of our guests throughout their travels.”

Sitata is a Canadian travel management company, which collects information based on announcements, official government websites and media channels. This collated information is then updated and made available on the travel map. The map uses advanced computer algorithms to detect new travel information. Important information like border restrictions, curfew timings, mandatory precautionary measures, quarantine rules, airport and flight operations, and the number of current active COVID-19 cases in each destination is updated on the map.

In the quest to fight the coronavirus pandemic and restore passengers’ confidence in air travel, Etihad Airways has come up with multiple initiatives like Etihad Wellness, risk assessment tool and have teamed up with mediclinicme to conduct COVID-19 PCR tests for guests travelling from Abu Dhabi and other emirates.

All these initiative is Etihad’s way forward to help passengers make informed travel decisions and restore passenger confidence in air travel. From August Etihad plans to open 58 global destinations via Abu Dhabi.
