IndiGo signs purchase order for 500 Airbus A320 Family jets.
This comprehensive order includes a combination of A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR aircraft.

This monumental order, which spans from 2030 to 2035, represents the largest single aircraft purchase by any airline in collaboration with Airbus.

IndiGo, India’s leading airline, has solidified its long-term plans by placing a firm order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. This monumental order, which spans from 2030 to 2035, represents not only IndiGo’s largest-ever order but also the largest single aircraft purchase by any airline in collaboration with Airbus. The engine selection and the specific mix of A320 and A321 aircraft will be determined in due course.

With a current fleet of over 300 aircraft and existing orders for 480 more to be delivered by the end of this decade, IndiGo’s order-book now stands at nearly 1,000 aircraft to be delivered well into the next decade. This comprehensive order includes a combination of A320NEO, A321NEO, and A321XLR aircraft.

The evaluation of the offers was thoroughly discussed with IndiGo’s Board and subsequently endorsed. This significant order further strengthens the strategic relationship between IndiGo and Airbus. Since its establishment in 2006, IndiGo has placed a staggering total of 1,330 aircraft orders with Airbus, reflecting the airline’s commitment to continuous growth and expansion.

Pieter Elbers, CEO, IndiGo said, “It is difficult to overstate the significance of IndiGo’s new historic order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft. An order-book now of almost 1,000 aircraft well into the next decade enables IndiGo to fulfill its mission to continue boosting economic growth, social cohesion, and mobility in India. This order strongly reaffirms IndiGo’s belief in the growth of India, in the A320 Family, and in our strategic partnership with Airbus.”

The fuel-efficient A320NEO Family aircraft selected by IndiGo will enable the airline to focus on lowering operating costs while ensuring fuel efficiency and reliability. The young and efficient fleet will also contribute to IndiGo’s sustainability goals, building upon the already achieved 21% reduction in CO2 emissions between FY16 and FY23. IndiGo, which expects to serve 100 million customers this year, is among the fastest-growing airlines globally. This latest order will support the airline’s sustained growth trajectory for years to come.

India’s economy is projected to become the world’s third-largest by the end of this decade, from its current position as the fifth-largest. Prime Minister Modi has expressed his mission to establish India as a global aviation hub by 2030, focusing on developing cutting-edge infrastructure and positioning the country as an aviation leader. With its current fleet and the forthcoming delivery of nearly 1,000 aircraft, IndiGo is well-positioned not only to expand and strengthen its unrivaled network but also to actively contribute to fulfilling the nation’s aviation aspirations.
