Icelandair has signed lease agreements with Aircastle for six Airbus A320neo aircraft, marking another step forward in the airline’s ongoing fleet renewal programme and expanding its next-generation Airbus fleet.
The Pratt & Whitney-powered aircraft, built between 2018 and 2020, are scheduled to enter service before the summer of 2028. The agreement follows Icelandair’s recent commitment to lease four additional A320neo aircraft from AviLease, which are expected to join the fleet from spring 2027.
The latest leases will increase Icelandair‘s Airbus fleet to 20 aircraft once all 10 newly leased A320neos are delivered. The carrier currently operates seven Airbus aircraft, with three Airbus A321LRs also scheduled for delivery later this year.

The fleet expansion forms part of Icelandair’s long-term modernisation strategy, which includes the introduction of Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320 family aircraft while progressively retiring its ageing Boeing 757 and Boeing 767 fleets.
The airline expects to complete its fleet transition by January 2027, when all passenger services will be operated using new-generation aircraft. According to Icelandair, the new fleet will deliver up to 30% lower fuel consumption per seat compared with the aircraft being replaced, supporting improved operational efficiency and lower emissions.
