Ibom Air expands A220 fleet with Third A220-300 delivery

Nigerian carrier Ibom Air has taken delivery of its third Airbus A220-300, bringing its total fleet to 10 aircraft as it continues its fleet modernisation and network expansion programme.

Ibom Air has taken delivery of a new Airbus A220-300, registered 5N-CDC, at Airbus’ A220 final assembly facility in Mirabel, Canada. The aircraft was formally handed over to the airline following the signing of the Transfer of Title documents by George Uriesi, Managing Director and CEO of Ibom Air.

The latest delivery marks another step in Ibom Air’s fleet renewal strategy as the airline looks to improve operational efficiency and expand its domestic and regional network.

“We are most delighted to receive the third A220-300 into our growing, modern fleet,” said Uriesi. “The addition of this new A220 will have a significant positive impact on the business, making Ibom Air’s operations safer, more passenger-friendly, more environmentally responsible, and far more efficient.”

Uriesi also acknowledged the support of Pastor Umo Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State and the airline’s shareholder, for the continued development of Ibom Air.

Guillaume Chevasson, Head of the Airbus A220 Programme and CEO of Airbus Canada, congratulated Ibom Air on the latest delivery and highlighted the A220’s suitability for the airline’s fleet-modernisation plans. “We are honoured by Ibom Air’s trust in Airbus and the A220 Family,” said Chevasson. “The A220 is the ideal aircraft for the airline’s fleet modernization, thanks to its exceptional operational flexibility, fuel efficiency, passenger comfort, and performance across domestic and regional networks.”

With the addition of 5N-CDC, Ibom Air’s fleet now comprises three Airbus A220-300s and seven Mitsubishi CRJ900 regional jets.

The new aircraft also reduces the overall age of the fleet, supporting Ibom Air’s positioning as one of Nigeria’s operators with a young and modern fleet.

Ibom Air placed a firm order for 10 A220-300s at the Dubai Airshow in 2021. The latest aircraft is the second A220-300 delivered against that order, following the first factory-new A220 delivered in 2023. The airline also acquired another A220-300 outright in 2024.

The growing A220 fleet is expected to support Ibom Air’s expansion while providing improved fuel efficiency, operational flexibility and passenger capacity across its domestic and regional operations.
