IAG Engine Tech appoints Max Schramm as CEO to drive global engine MRO expansion

IAG Engine Tech has appointed aerospace executive Max Schramm as its CEO, tasking him with leading the newly established company as it expands the International Airlines Group’s engine maintenance business and strengthens its position in the global maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) market.

The appointment supports Iberia’s Flight Plan 2030 strategy, under which IAG Engine Tech has been created to oversee the Group’s engine maintenance operations and accelerate growth in next-generation engine services.

Schramm brings more than 16 years of experience in the aerospace MRO industry. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of Lufthansa Technik Canada, where he led the establishment and expansion of the company’s Canadian subsidiary, overseeing its strategy, operations and commercial development. During his career, he has also held several senior leadership and commercial roles within Lufthansa Technik, gaining extensive international experience in aircraft engine maintenance, industrial operations and business development.

Commenting on his appointment, Schramm said he was excited to lead the company through its next phase of growth.

“Leading IAG Engine Tech is an incredibly exciting opportunity for me. The company has a very promising future and all the ingredients to become a recognised leader in the industry. It also benefits from Iberia’s proven expertise in engine maintenance and the strong management capabilities of IAG,” he said.

The creation of IAG Engine Tech reflects growing demand for maintenance services for the new generation of LEAP engines and the significant industrial investment required to support them. The company has been established following IAG’s award of a LEAP Premier MRO licence from CFM International, making the Group one of a limited number of authorised providers worldwide qualified to maintain the engines.

IAG Engine Tech will focus on delivering the investments needed in facilities, equipment, technical expertise and workforce development to meet rising demand for LEAP engine maintenance from both IAG Group airlines and third-party customers.

Operations will be based at Iberia’s engine maintenance facilities at La Muñoza in Madrid, where the first LEAP engine maintenance activities are expected to commence during the first quarter of 2027.

Leveraging Iberia Maintenance’s decades of expertise in aircraft engine servicing, IAG Engine Tech aims to become a leading global provider of next-generation engine MRO services while supporting the continued expansion of IAG’s maintenance business and developing a high-value industrial capability.
