HAL conducts first flight test of LCA Mk1A fighter jet

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited completed a flight test with a flying time of 18 minutes on the first Aircraft LA5033 of the Tejas Mk1A Aircraft series at its facility in Bengaluru representing a remarkable achievement amidst major supply chain challenges.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) marked a significant milestone as the first Aircraft LA5033 of the Tejas Mk1A Aircraft series took to the skies from the HAL facility in Bengaluru. The successful sortie, with a flying time of 18 minutes, represents a remarkable achievement for HAL amidst major supply chain challenges in the global geopolitical environment following the contract signature in February 2021. The aircraft’s maiden flight was piloted by Chief Test Pilot, Gp Capt K K Venugopal (Retd.), showcasing the expertise and skill of HAL’s flight crew. Their proficiency ensured a smooth and successful flight, setting a positive tone for the Tejas Mk1A program’s future endeavors.

HAL expressed gratitude to various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Indian Air Force (IAF), Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)/Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), Directorate General of Aeronautical Quality Assurance (DGAQA), and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The collective efforts of these entities have played a vital role in the success of the Tejas Mk1A program, highlighting the collaborative approach adopted in the Indian aerospace industry.

Looking ahead, HAL reiterated its commitment to delivering additional Tejas Mk1A aircraft to the IAF through the three lines of production established at its facilities. The continued support of stakeholders will be instrumental in ensuring the timely induction of the Tejas Mk1A into the IAF’s fleet, bolstering the nation’s defence capabilities.

“HAL achieved this significant production milestone with concurrent design & development amid major supply chain challenges in the global geo-political environment subsequent to the contract signature in February 2021”, said C. B. Ananthakrishnan, CMD (Addl. Charge), HAL.

The Tejas Mk1A represents a significant advancement in India’s indigenous fighter aircraft program, boasting advanced electronic radar, warfare, and communication systems. Additionally, the aircraft features enhanced combat capability and improved maintenance features, further enhancing its operational effectiveness.
