GKN Aerospace secures long-term Pratt & Whitney GTF MRO contracts

GKN Aerospace has secured a series of long-term MRO contracts from Pratt & Whitney, strengthening its role as a key aftermarket partner for the growing global fleet of GTF engines.

The multi-year agreements, spanning the next five to 10 years, cover repair solutions for more than 20 different GTF engine component types, including engine cases, structures and rotating parts across the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine family.

To support the expanding GTF aftermarket, Pratt & Whitney has also awarded GKN Aerospace multiple repair contracts for PW1500G and PW1900G engine components. The work will be shared between GKN Aerospace’s specialised MRO facilities in Trollhättan, Sweden, and Johor, Malaysia, leveraging the expertise of both sites to support operators worldwide.

At its Sweden facility, GKN Aerospace will deploy advanced Directed Energy Deposition (DED) additive manufacturing technology to repair PW1500G and PW1900G Exit Guide Vane (EGV) stators. The technology enables the precise restoration of worn engine components that would otherwise be beyond repair using conventional methods, improving repairability and extending component life.

The Johor, Malaysia, facility will expand its repair capabilities to include stators, stator assemblies and next-generation composite fan blades, strengthening GKN Aerospace‘s support for customers across the Asia-Pacific region.

Meanwhile, the company’s San Diego, USA, site is enhancing its regional MRO capabilities by introducing advanced thermal coating processes and ultrasonic shot peening technologies to improve component durability and performance.

Commenting on the awards, GKN Aerospace said the agreements represent a significant milestone in its long-standing partnership with Pratt & Whitney. The company noted that investments in advanced repair technologies, including additive manufacturing, composite repairs and new coating capabilities, will enable it to deliver innovative, localised MRO solutions while supporting the rapidly growing global GTF engine fleet.

The latest contracts further reinforce GKN Aerospace’s position as a strategic partner in the GTF aftermarket, supporting Pratt & Whitney’s expanding global MRO network with advanced repair capabilities and next-generation engine maintenance technologies.
