GE Aerospace has unveiled plans to invest over Rs 240 crore (approximately USD 28 million) in upgrading its manufacturing facility located in Pune, one of the emerging aerospace hubs in central India which also houses one of the crucial bases of the Indian armed forces. This substantial investment will be directed towards acquiring new machines, equipment, specialized tools, and enhancing the capacity of existing products and manufacturing processes, as stated by the company in a recent announcement.

The Pune facility, inaugurated in 2015, specializes in producing components for commercial jet engines. With this investment, GE Aerospace aims to expand its capabilities to undertake new projects while also bolstering its current manufacturing processes. GE Aerospace’s Pune facility highlights that this investment is crucial for sustaining their growth in the aerospace sector in India and meeting the escalating demand from customers.

The components manufactured at the Pune plant are integral parts supplied to GE’s global factories, where they are utilized in assembling various commercial jet engines such as G90, GEnx, GE 9X, and LEAP engines developed by CFM International, a joint venture between GE and Safran.

Apart from its manufacturing prowess, the Pune facility has significantly contributed to nurturing local talent in aerospace manufacturing. Since its inception, the facility has trained over 5,000 individuals in specialized aerospace precision manufacturing processes, showcasing its commitment to skill development and knowledge transfer in the sector.

In addition to the Pune facility, GE has a robust presence in India through its research and technology center, the John F Welch Technology Centre in Bengaluru, established in 2000. The Multi-modal Factory in Pune, operational since 2015, further bolsters GE’s footprint in the country’s aerospace and manufacturing landscape.
