GE Aerospace and UK Export Finance (UKEF) have launched a new financing framework valued at up to US$1 billion to help airlines fund engine maintenance at GE Aerospace’s overhaul facilities in Wales and Scotland over the next five years.
The initiative is designed to simplify access to financing for engine shop visits by replacing complex, case-by-case funding arrangements with a pre-approved, multi-year financing structure. The approach will enable airlines to better plan maintenance schedules, improve cash flow and maximize fleet availability.
Under the program, UKEF is expected to support up to US$1 billion in financing, providing operators with a more streamlined and predictable funding solution for engine overhauls.

Rahul Ghai, CFO of GE Aerospace, said the program will help airlines manage maintenance investments more efficiently while reinforcing the company’s UK operations.
“This new program provides airlines with a faster, more reliable way to manage investments in engine overhauls,” Ghai said. “We’re pleased to partner with UKEF on a solution that supports our customers by keeping their fleets flying and strengthens our UK operations.”
The financing initiative covers maintenance performed on CFM56, GE90 and GEnx engines at GE Aerospace’s UK overhaul facilities, where more than 2,000 employees support commercial airline customers around the world.
The new framework underscores the growing focus on innovative financing solutions that help airlines maintain operational resilience while ensuring timely engine maintenance and improved fleet performance.
