GATES USA SPAH expands engine MRO capabilities with first GEnx engine induction

GATES USA SPAH, the engine maintenance joint venture between GA Telesis and Air Transport Services Group (ATSG), has expanded its engine maintenance portfolio with the successful induction of its first GEnx engine at its Wilmington, Ohio, facility. The milestone strengthens the company’s capabilities in supporting next-generation widebody aircraft while reinforcing its position as a regional engine maintenance provider across the Americas.

The addition of GEnx engine support marks a significant step in the facility’s ongoing expansion strategy, enabling GATES USA SPAH to offer maintenance and repair services for a broader range of widebody engine platforms. The enhanced capability is expected to provide airlines, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and aviation customers with improved access to regional engine maintenance solutions, reducing turnaround times and improving operational efficiency.

The GEnx engine, manufactured by GE Aerospace, powers Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner and 747-8 aircraft, making it one of the industry’s most widely deployed next-generation widebody engines. As global fleets of these aircraft continue to grow, demand for specialized engine maintenance services is also increasing, creating new opportunities for independent engine MRO providers.

Commenting on the milestone, Jason Reed, President of GATES USA SPAH, said the expansion reflects the company’s commitment to meeting the evolving maintenance requirements of its customers.

“With the continued growth of our Wilmington facility’s repair capabilities, our capacity to meet our customers’ evolving needs is greater than ever before. The addition of GEnx engine services allows us to provide broader support for widebody operators while continuing to deliver the quality, responsiveness and technical expertise our customers expect from our team,” Reed said.

The introduction of GEnx engine capability forms part of GATES USA SPAH’s long-term investment strategy to expand its advanced engine maintenance portfolio. By broadening its repair capabilities, the company aims to support airlines with scalable, locally available maintenance solutions that help improve fleet reliability while minimizing aircraft downtime.

Backed by the technical expertise and global resources of GA Telesis, the Wilmington facility continues to enhance its service offerings to meet the growing demand for engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services. The company said the latest capability expansion reinforces its commitment to operational excellence, customer support and the development of comprehensive engine maintenance solutions for the commercial aviation sector.

The addition of GEnx engine capability reflects the growing demand for maintenance support for new-generation widebody engines as Boeing 787 fleets continue to expand worldwide. With global engine shop capacity remaining constrained and turnaround times under pressure, regional facilities such as GATES USA SPAH are playing an increasingly important role in strengthening engine MRO capacity, improving customer responsiveness and supporting fleet availability across the Americas.
