Liebherr-Aerospace has been selected by Finnair to perform overhaul services for the nose landing gear systems of the airline’s Airbus A350 fleet, further strengthening the long-standing partnership between the two companies.
Under the agreement, all overhaul activities will be carried out in-house at Liebherr-Aerospace’s facility in Lindenberg, Germany, which serves as the company’s centre of competence for landing gear systems, flight controls, gears, gearboxes, and aerospace electronics.
The development comes at a significant time for the aviation aftermarket sector, as airlines worldwide begin entering the next major cycle of landing gear overhaul programmes for modern wide-body aircraft fleets. Industry experts expect demand for overhaul slots and specialised landing gear MRO capabilities to increase steadily as more Airbus A350 aircraft mature operationally.
Liebherr-Aerospace highlighted that its selection by Finnair reflects the company’s strong technical expertise as both the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and a specialised maintenance, repair, and overhaul provider for advanced landing gear systems.
Commenting on the agreement, Alex Vlielander, Chief Customer Officer at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation, stated that the industry is now entering a decisive planning phase for the next global landing gear overhaul wave, making long-term MRO slot planning increasingly important for operators.
He added that the agreement with Finnair represents another important milestone in the partnership between the two companies and further reinforces Liebherr-Aerospace’s position as a key support partner for the airline’s Airbus A350 operations.
The nose landing gear system installed on the Airbus A350 was originally developed, manufactured, and certified by Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg, thereby giving the company significant OEM-level expertise to support the platform throughout its operational lifecycle.
The agreement also reflects the growing importance of OEM-backed overhaul support programmes as airlines increasingly prioritise reliability, technical expertise, turnaround efficiency, and long-term asset performance for next-generation aircraft fleets.
With Airbus A350 fleets continuing to expand globally, demand for specialised landing gear overhaul services is expected to remain strong over the coming years, creating new opportunities across the global aviation MRO sector.
