FACC achieves 2000th Sharklet milestone, reinforcing Airbus A320 efficiency, production strategy, and market leadership.

FACC contributes significantly to enhancing the efficiency and range of modern passenger aircraft by manufacturing sharklets for the Airbus A320 Family. These sharklets, standing approximately 8 feet high, notably reduce fuel consumption. In June, the FACC team celebrates the production milestone of the 2000th Sharklet, reinforcing its market leadership. This anniversary Sharklet will be assembled at Airbus and delivered to an airline in the Arab world.

Robert Machtlinger, CEO,  FACC, said, “Producing 2,000 Sharklets for our customer Airbus is a milestone for FACC. We look forward to equipping many more Airbus aircraft with FACC Sharklets in the coming years. With over 7,000 Airbus A320 Family aircraft on order by airlines, we are now continuing this success story together.”

The Sharklets produced at FACC’s headquarters in Ried im Innkreis are directly supplied to Airbus production lines. Crafted from advanced composite materials, these components comprise approximately 4,000 individual parts. Moreover, they are meticulously fabricated by a team of about 100 highly specialized professionals.

FACC’s lightweight construction technology plays a crucial role in its success. The Airbus A320 Family, renowned as the world’s most successful and top-selling aircraft family, benefits significantly from FACC’s expertise in sharklet production. Inspired by nature, the Sharklets mimic the upward-bending outer feathers of large birds like the condor, thereby enhancing flight efficiency. Additionally, the name ‘Sharklet’ derives from the component’s resemblance to the fin of a shark.
