Embraer expands C-390 Millennium training ecosystem for Sweden and Austria

Advanced simulation and digital training solutions to enhance operational readiness, crew qualification and maintenance capabilities

Embraer has signed an agreement to provide advanced C-390 Millennium training systems to the air forces of Sweden and Austria, further strengthening the aircraft’s lifecycle support ecosystem and reinforcing long-term operational readiness for European operators.

Under the agreement, the Swedish Air Force will receive a comprehensive training package comprising a Level D Full Flight Simulator (FFS), a Cargo Handling Station Trainer (CHST) developed in collaboration with Rheinmetall, and a Computer-Based Training (CBT) solution created with ETI.

The Austrian Air Force will receive a Computer-Based Training (CBT) system designed to support theoretical instruction and qualification for flight crews and technical personnel.

The integrated training solutions are intended to provide pilots, loadmasters, aircrew and maintenance technicians with realistic, high-fidelity learning environments that improve mission readiness while supporting safe and efficient fleet operations.

Commenting on the agreement, Carlos Naufel, President and CEO of Embraer Services & Support, said the investment reflects Embraer’s long-term commitment to supporting C-390 operators beyond aircraft delivery.

“Providing advanced training capabilities to our European C-390 operators reinforces Embraer’s commitment to operational readiness and lifecycle support. Together with our partners, we are building a comprehensive training ecosystem that enables Sweden and Austria to maximise the aircraft’s capabilities while strengthening interoperability and commonality across their fleets,” Naufel said.

The Level D Full Flight Simulator has been designed to replicate both routine and complex operational scenarios, including military mission profiles, abnormal system behaviour and emergencies. The simulator incorporates more than 350 system malfunctions, allowing pilots to train extensively in realistic operational environments while reducing the need for live aircraft training.

The Cargo Handling Station Trainer enables loadmasters to practise cargo loading procedures, aircraft configuration and mission planning through advanced visual simulation, improving operational efficiency during tactical airlift missions.

Meanwhile, the Computer-Based Training platform delivers digital instruction for pilots, loadmasters, additional crew members and maintenance personnel through a SCORM-compatible Learning Management System, allowing flexible and standardised training across multiple user groups.

The expanded training ecosystem plays a critical role in strengthening long-term fleet sustainment. By providing maintenance technicians with structured digital training before working on operational aircraft, the CBT platform enhances technical competency, reduces maintenance errors and improves aircraft availability. Simulator-based instruction also enables engineering personnel to gain familiarity with aircraft systems, fault diagnosis and maintenance procedures in a controlled environment without affecting fleet operations.

The use of advanced simulation technologies supports predictive maintenance practices, standardised maintenance procedures and faster troubleshooting, helping operators optimise lifecycle costs while maintaining high mission readiness.

As more nations introduce the C-390 Millennium into service, integrated training and sustainment solutions are becoming an increasingly important part of Embraer’s comprehensive support strategy, ensuring operators receive not only the aircraft but also the technical infrastructure required to maximise fleet performance throughout its operational life.

The C-390 Millennium continues to establish itself as a next-generation military airlifter, combining multi-mission capability with a growing global support network that integrates pilot training, maintenance qualification, logistics support and lifecycle services to deliver high operational availability for defence operators worldwide.
