Embraer conducts 100% SAF-powered flight tests on Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 jets

Embraer conducts 100% SAF-powered flight tests on Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 jets.
Embraer's aircraft are currently approved to use a blend of up to 50% SAF mixed with conventional jet fuel, following ASTM International specifications.

The tests on the Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 where one engine ran on 100% SAF, took place at Embraer’s Melbourne facility involving collaboration with engine and fuel system suppliers.

Embraer has announced successful tests of its Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 aircraft using 100% neat sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). These tests, where one engine ran on 100% SAF, took place at Embraer’s Melbourne facility and involved collaboration with engine and fuel system suppliers, including Honeywell Aerospace, Parker, Pratt & Whitney Canada, and Safran. Embraer’s aircraft are currently approved to use a blend of up to 50% SAF mixed with conventional jet fuel, following ASTM International specifications. However, potential future specifications allowing for fuels containing up to 100% SAF can further reduce emissions by utilizing sustainable, non-fossil-based sources.

The use of SAF is a critical part of Embraer’s commitment to sustainability. This milestone represents Embraer’s dedication to adapting its current products to be as sustainable as possible and promoting SAF adoption in the aviation industry. SAF is a renewable energy source capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel, aligning with Embraer’s goals of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040 and supporting the aerospace sector in reaching a net-zero emissions target by 2050.

“We are proud to have successfully flown the Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 on 100% neat SAF, an important step as our operators are increasingly interested in and adopting this fuel,” said Michael Amalfitano, Embraer Executive Jets President and CEO. “This achievement is an important milestone in our journey towards net-zero emissions by 2050 and demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, our customers and our stakeholders,” he further added.

Embraer’s commitment to sustainability is a fundamental part of its business strategy, and the company is continuously exploring new ways to reduce its environmental impact. The successful Phenom 300 and Praetor 600 flights on 100% neat SAF represent significant milestones in these efforts. Embraer will continue working toward a more sustainable future for the aviation industry through additional efforts, such as research and development of low- and zero-emission alternative propulsion systems, including electrification, hybrid-electric, and hydrogen.
