Embraer and Avfuel Partner to Boost Sustainable Aviation Fuel Use at Melbourne Orlando International Airport, targeting weekly supply for eco-friendly flight operations.

Embraer, an aircraft developer in aerospace innovation on a global scale, has recently announced a significant agreement with Avfuel aimed at bolstering the utilization of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) at Melbourne Orlando International Airport (KMLB), with a target of one load per week. This collaboration builds upon their initial SAF agreement established in July 2021 to support Embraer’s flight operations at MLB. Under the terms of this agreement, Avfuel has been supplying one 8,000-gallon truckload of Neste MY SAF per quarter to Sheltair MLB, the FBO responsible for storage and handling services for Embraer.

“Embraer’s collaboration with Avfuel and Sheltair marks a pivotal milestone in our journey toward net-zero emission flight operations. Our continued investment in SAF demonstrates our dedication to reducing emissions today and driving the industry closer to the net-zero aviation goal by 2050.”  said Michael Amalfitano, President and CEO of Embraer Executive Jets.

With the implementation of the revised weekly agreement starting in April, the expanded partnership is anticipated to culminate in the delivery of a total of 240,000 U.S. gallons of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) to Embraer throughout 2024. This marks a noteworthy escalation compared to preceding years. Each truckload will contribute to a reduction of 19 metric tons in carbon emissions, resulting in a total reduction of 570 metric tons in carbon emissions for the year.

“Sheltair is excited to support Embraer by handling and storing these SAF deliveries. This collaboration between Sheltair, Embraer and Avfuel shows our commitment to reaching the industry’s goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. By combining our knowledge and resources, we will be able to handle and store weekly fuel deliveries of SAF.”  said Leonel Rivera, Senior Vice President of FBO Operations for Sheltair

Embraer’s allocation towards Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) primarily facilitates flight demonstrations, deliveries, and production flights in Melbourne. Alongside this investment, Embraer remains dedicated to enhancing the efficiency of its existing aircraft portfolio, researching alternative low-to-zero-emission propulsion technologies, and providing complimentary carbon offsetting to new Embraer Executive Care customers through its collaboration with 4AIR. These endeavors uphold the company’s environmental objectives, including the aim to achieve carbon-neutral operations by 2040 and contribute to the industry’s Fly Net Zero commitment towards achieving net-zero aviation by 2050.

“Embraer has been a steadfast partner in SAF adoption from day one. We are proud to play a part in its impressive sustainability journey by drastically increasing SAF supply to help fulfill its team’s admirable sustainability goals. The Avfuel team also extends its gratitude to Sheltair for the pivotal role it plays in making this agreement possible with industry-leading fuel safety and handling services.” said C.R. Sincock, II, Avfuel’s Executive Vice President.
