Embraer and the Hellenic Aerospace Industry partner to strengthen C-390 MRO and Defence in Greece

Embraer has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hellenic Aerospace Industry (HAI) aimed at expanding strategic cooperation in aerospace and defence, with a strong focus on developing local maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) capabilities for the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft in Greece.

The agreement marks another significant step in Embraer’s broader European expansion strategy while reinforcing Greece’s ambitions to strengthen domestic aerospace and defence industrial capabilities.

The MoU was signed by Fabio Caparica, Vice President of Contracts at Embraer Defense & Security, and Alexandros Diakopoulos, Executive Chairman of Hellenic Aerospace Industry.

A central objective of the partnership is to support the Hellenic Air Force (HAF) with greater operational autonomy and long-term sustainment capability for its future C-390 fleet through in-country maintenance and technical support infrastructure.

The collaboration is expected to pave the way for future discussions around establishing local maintenance expertise, technical support capabilities and defence aerospace industrial cooperation within Greece.

For Embraer, the agreement represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen aftermarket support and long-term fleet sustainment capability in Europe, particularly as more countries evaluate modern military transport aircraft solutions and lifecycle support partnerships.

The company highlighted that the partnership will help create a sustainable local support ecosystem while enhancing fleet readiness and operational reliability for future operators.

Hellenic Aerospace Industry described the agreement as more than a commercial partnership, positioning it as part of Greece’s broader effort to build long-term aerospace industrial capability and defence self-reliance.

According to HAI, developing C-390 maintenance and support capability within Greece will not only support the operational requirements of the Hellenic Air Force but also contribute toward strengthening the country’s aerospace manufacturing and technical services ecosystem.

Industry observers note that such partnerships are increasingly becoming critical as countries seek to localise sustainment activities and reduce long-term dependence on external support networks for military aviation programmes.

Defence aerospace MRO is emerging as a strategic national capability for many countries, particularly amid rising geopolitical uncertainties and increasing military modernisation programmes worldwide.

By building in-country support capability around the C-390 platform, Greece aims to strengthen both operational flexibility and industrial participation within the defence aerospace sector.
