De Havilland Canada delivers first Twin Otter Classic 300-G to Ethiopian Airlines

De Havilland Canada delivers first Twin Otter Classic 300-G to Ethiopian Airlines.

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited has delivered the first of two Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft ordered by Ethiopian Airlines, marking a significant step in the carrier’s strategy to expand regional connectivity across Ethiopia and East Africa.

The new aircraft will support Ethiopian Airlines’ efforts to improve access to remote communities, tourism destinations and lake regions, strengthening air transport links in areas where conventional aircraft operations can be challenging.

Ryan DeBrusk, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at De Havilland Canada, welcomed the delivery and highlighted the aircraft’s suitability for demanding regional operations.

“We appreciate Ethiopian Airlines’ confidence in De Havilland Canada and the Twin Otter Classic 300-G,” said DeBrusk. “The Twin Otter’s proven reliability, versatility and ability to operate in challenging environments make it well suited to the diverse missions Ethiopian Airlines will undertake across the region.”

The Twin Otter Classic 300-G builds on the aircraft’s long-standing reputation for short takeoff and landing (STOL) performance while incorporating several modern upgrades. These include a Garmin G1000 integrated flight deck, lightweight cabin seating, enhanced electrical systems and improved cockpit ergonomics.

Designed to deliver greater payload capability, operational efficiency and mission flexibility, the aircraft retains the rugged characteristics that have made the Twin Otter a preferred platform for operators serving remote and underserved destinations worldwide.

Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew described the delivery as an important milestone for the airline’s regional expansion plans.

“The delivery of our first Twin Otter Classic 300-G is an important milestone in our regional growth strategy,” said Tasew. “This aircraft will enable us to serve remote areas better while supporting tourism, economic development and essential air services throughout the region.”

The delivery represents the first phase of Ethiopian Airlines’ planned Twin Otter Classic 300-G fleet expansion, with a second aircraft expected to join the fleet later in 2026.

As Africa’s largest airline continues to strengthen its regional network, the addition of the versatile Twin Otter fleet is expected to enhance connectivity and provide greater access to communities across East Africa that rely on dependable short-field aviation services.
