Dassault Aviation launches FalconWays Tool to control carbon emissions

Dassault Aviation launches FalconWays Tool to control carbon emissions.
The rollout of FalconWays will initially occur on the new Falcon 6X extra widebody twinjet, set to enter service soon.

FalconWays will be offered as a flight application within Dassault’s FalconSphere iPad electronic flight bag, providing compatibility with Jeppesen and Universal flight planning tools.

Dassault Aviation has introduced a cutting-edge flight planning tool known as FalconWays, aimed at assisting Falcon pilots in selecting the most fuel-efficient routes and optimizing fuel carried. This is made possible by utilizing updated global wind data, optimization algorithms, and performance model-specific algorithms. This innovative flight planning tool will be demonstrated at the Dassault static display during the NBAA Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition from October 17 to 19, 2023.

FalconWays is set to be offered as a flight application within Dassault’s FalconSphere iPad electronic flight bag, providing compatibility with Jeppesen and Universal flight planning tools. The application has undergone extensive evaluation during long-haul flights between the U.S. and Europe and across Asia, as well as through numerous simulations. In practical applications, crews utilizing FalconWays managed to reduce fuel consumption by up to seven percent.

“Our new FalconWays flight app is part our company’s broader commitment to sustainable flying” said Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO, Dassault Aviation. “It will help Falcon customers reach a new level of operational efficiency while reducing aviation emission levels,” he further added.

FalconWays enables pilots to download worldwide wind information and combine it with operational flight plans, in-house performance tools, and optimization data for vertical, lateral, and mach numbers. This data is used to recompute the flight plan for more efficient routes. For Falcons equipped with SATCOM, the application allows for real-time database updates during long-haul flights to further optimize the trajectory, enabling optimization of vertical and lateral trajectories both before and during the flight.

The rollout of FalconWays will initially occur on the new Falcon 6X extra widebody twinjet, set to enter service soon. It will subsequently become available on the Falcon 8X in early 2024, on the 7X by the end of 2024, and on the Falcon 2000LXS/S in early 2025.

FalconWays, developed in-house by Dassault Engineering and flight operations teams, has resulted in the creation of advanced algorithms for enhancing flight efficiency. Its implementation across the Falcon fleet is anticipated to yield significant fuel savings and contribute to reducing aviation emissions by thousands of tons of CO2.
