Cyprus Airways renews heavy maintenance partnership with Bird Aviation to strengthen fleet reliability

Cyprus Airways has signed a renewed agreement with Bird Aviation for the provision of heavy maintenance services, reinforcing a long-standing partnership aimed at supporting fleet reliability, operational efficiency and the airline’s continued network expansion.

Under the agreement, Bird Aviation will continue to provide comprehensive base maintenance support for the airline’s fleet from its facilities in Larnaca, undertaking C-checks and other scheduled heavy maintenance activities. The partnership ensures that Cyprus Airways maintains the highest technical and regulatory standards while enhancing aircraft availability across its growing network.

The renewed collaboration comes as airlines worldwide place increasing emphasis on dependable maintenance partnerships to improve operational resilience amid rising fleet utilisation, tighter maintenance schedules and ongoing supply chain challenges. By continuing to work with a trusted local MRO provider, Cyprus Airways aims to strengthen fleet performance while ensuring safe and reliable operations for its passengers.

Commenting on the agreement, Thanos Pascalis, Chief Executive Officer, Cyprus Airways, said the partnership has become an integral part of the airline’s operational strategy. “Safety, reliability and operational excellence are fundamental to the Cyprus Airways experience. Our collaboration with Bird Aviation has been built on mutual trust, technical expertise and a shared commitment to the highest industry standards. As we continue to grow and expand our network, we are pleased to further strengthen this partnership, ensuring that our passengers continue to enjoy a safe, seamless and dependable travel experience,” he said.

For Bird Aviation, the renewed agreement reflects the confidence the airline has placed in its maintenance capabilities and further strengthens its position within Cyprus’ aviation maintenance sector.

Frederic Pralus, Chief Executive Officer, Bird Aviation, said the continued partnership demonstrates the strong relationship developed between the two organisations over the years. “We are pleased to continue our partnership with Cyprus Airways. This agreement reflects the strong relationship our teams have built over the years and our shared commitment to safety and operational excellence. It is also a positive example of how collaboration between Cyprus-based aviation companies can support the growth of the country’s aviation sector. We look forward to continuing to provide reliable maintenance support as Cyprus Airways expands its operations,” Pralus said.

The agreement highlights the increasingly strategic role of long-term airline-MRO partnerships in supporting fleet reliability and business continuity. As carriers continue to expand their route networks while navigating maintenance capacity constraints, dependable heavy maintenance providers have become essential in ensuring aircraft remain available for service with minimal operational disruption.

For Cyprus Airways, the renewed partnership supports its broader objective of delivering consistent operational performance while maintaining the highest standards of safety, compliance and technical excellence. For Bird Aviation, it reinforces its reputation as a trusted maintenance partner capable of providing high-quality base maintenance services for airlines operating in the Eastern Mediterranean region.

The collaboration also reflects a broader trend across the aviation industry, where airlines are increasingly forming long-term strategic relationships with specialised MRO providers to optimise maintenance planning, improve turnaround efficiency and support sustainable fleet growth in an increasingly competitive operating environment.
