Collins Aerospace wins US Army Chinook Avionics contract

The US Army has awarded Collins Aerospace a contract valued at up to $472 million to provide engineering support for the modernization and sustainment of its CH-47 Chinook fleet.

The contract covers avionics upgrades to integrate new capabilities, replace obsolete systems and update the aircraft’s avionics architecture.

Jenny Miller, Vice President and General Manager of Vision and Sensing Systems at Collins Aerospace, said, “Collins equips the Chinook with advanced avionics that integrate communication, navigation and mission subsystems into a flexible, interoperable cockpit built for today’s operational demands. Our longstanding avionics partnership with the U.S. Army ensures the fleet continuously evolves to support the warfighter and meet future operational demands.”

The work will also focus on open and reusable avionics architectures that can be applied across multiple Army aircraft. This is intended to simplify the integration of new systems and reduce associated costs and development timelines.

Work under the contract will be carried out in Huntsville, Alabama, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
