Collins Aerospace is all set to expand its MRO operations in Malaysia, investing $63 million to significantly enhance its capabilities at Subang Aerotech Park. The project will increase the company’s MRO footprint in Selangor from 46,000 sq ft to 164,000 sq ft, positioning the facility as Collins Aerospace’s principal regional hub for advanced component MRO services.
The expansion comes amid strong growth in the Asia-Pacific aviation market, where fleet numbers and associated maintenance requirements are expected to rise substantially over the next two decades. The transition to the enlarged facility is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026 and is intended to strengthen support for airlines across the region through improved turnaround times and expanded repair capabilities.
The upgraded Subang facility will introduce advanced MRO services for a range of critical aircraft components, including air cycle machines, heat exchangers, valves, and next-generation starters. Collins Aerospace is also integrating several digital and automation technologies into its operations, including digital tier boards, eAndon systems, autonomous mobile robots, and real-time location tracking systems to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.
According to Collins Aerospace, the investment reflects the company’s long-term commitment to supporting the rapidly expanding Asia-Pacific aviation market while strengthening its regional service network. The company also plans to double employment opportunities at the facility, creating additional demand for skilled aerospace maintenance and engineering professionals in Malaysia.
Irene Makris, President of Power & Controls at Collins Aerospace, said the investment aligns with the company’s strategy of growing alongside its airline customers and responding to increasing maintenance demand across the region.
The facility has also been designed with sustainability and operational resilience in mind. Smart building management systems will monitor and optimize utility consumption, while new-generation equipment incorporates improved ergonomic features and reduced environmental impact. The site has been developed with scalable infrastructure that will support future operational growth and continuous process improvements.
The Subang expansion forms part of a broader series of investments by Collins Aerospace across the Asia-Pacific region since 2021. During this period, the company has introduced new MRO capabilities covering electrical power systems, environmental and airframe control systems, and engine control systems.
Collins Aerospace currently employs approximately 150 personnel in Malaysia and around 10,000 employees across 24 locations in eight Asia-Pacific countries, including India, Singapore, China, Australia, Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines. With more than five decades of operations in the region, the company continues to provide MRO, manufacturing, engineering, project management, and customer support services for commercial, business, and military aviation customers.
The latest investment further reinforces Malaysia’s growing position as a regional aerospace maintenance hub while enabling Collins Aerospace to meet the evolving support requirements of Asia-Pacific airlines and operators.
