China Eastern Airlines has confirmed a massive agreement to acquire 101 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, a deal carrying a sticker price of approximately $15.8 billion.
This blockbuster order further cements the European planemaker’s dominance in the Chinese market, occurring as its American rival, Boeing, navigates a complex geopolitical landscape ahead of high-stakes diplomatic talks.
Key Highlights of the Deal
- The Fleet Mix: The order includes a versatile range of narrowbody jets: the standard A320neo, the larger A321neo, and the extra-long-range A321XLR.
- Strategic Delivery: The aircraft are scheduled to arrive in phases between 2028 and 2032.
- The “Partnership” Discount: While the $15.8 billion figure is based on list prices, China Eastern noted it secured “significant price concessions,” making this deal even more favorable than its previous 100-jet order in 2022.
- Operational Goals: The carrier plans to use the new fuel-efficient jets to replace at least 53 aging aircraft, helping it slash carbon emissions and lower long-term operating costs.
For China Eastern, the move is a “vote of confidence” in the recovery of the Asia-Pacific aviation sector. By locking in delivery slots through 2032, the Shanghai-based airline is ensuring it has the capacity to meet rising demand while its competitors wait for political clouds to clear.
