China Eastern Airlines announced that it has placed an order for 25 GEnx-1B engines to power its Boeing 787 aircraft along with a long term agreement.

China Eastern Airlines announced that it has placed an order for 25 GEnx-1B engines to power its Boeing 787 aircraft at the 6th China International Import Expo. A long-term services agreement with TrueChoice is also included in the order. Since 2018, China Eastern Airlines has been a GEnx customer, having purchased 15 Boeing 787 aircraft powered by GEnx in addition to the TrueChoice services arrangement.

Since 2018, the airline’s GEnx engine, with its exceptional performance, great dependability, and exceptional fuel efficiency, has been an integral part of its fleet. The directive emphasises China Eastern Airlines and GE Aerospace’s shared commitment to deliver top-notch aviation services and promote a robust and more sustainable aviation sector in China.

Guowei Cheng, Deputy General Manager of China Eastern Airlines, said, “China Eastern Airlines and GE Aerospace are always in good cooperative relationship. At the 6th CIIE, China Eastern Airlines will purchase a new batch of GEnx engines and related services, which will support the operation and development of China Eastern Airlines’ fleet. We look forward to continuing to cooperate with GE Aerospace for mutual benefits, serving consumers with new aviation technologies and products, and promoting sustainable development.”

With around 3,000 engines in operation and on backlog, including spares, the GEnx engine family has accumulated more than 50 million flight hours since going into service in 2011. It is also the fastest-selling, high-thrust engine in GE history. Six of the seven Chinese airlines operating Boeing 787 fleets currently choose the GEnx engine. Over 90% of China’s Boeing 787 aircraft are powered by this engine, which has accumulated over 6.8 million flying hours.

Weiming Xiang, Vice President of GE, and President of GE Aerospace Greater China, said, “China Eastern Airline first ordered our GEnx engines at the inaugural CIIE in 2018. We are grateful that China Eastern Airlines has selected the GEnx-1B engine again this year. This agreement fully demonstrates the airline’s trust in our products and services. We will continue to work closely with them to support the operation of their GEnx-powered Boeing 787 fleet, underpinned by excellent fuel efficiency and leading innovative technology.”

Two of every three operational 787 aeroplanes are powered by the GEnx-1B. In comparison to its rivals, the engine saves 1.4% on fuel consumption on the average 787 mission. Each aeroplane can emit almost 2 million fewer pounds of CO2 yearly because to the additional fuel savings.
