Since its introduction, the LEAP-1B engine has amassed over 10.5 million flight hours and 4 million cycles.

Avolon has been a CFM International customer since its inception in 2010 and currently has over 400 CFM engines including the LEAP-1B powered aircraft in its portfolio.

CFM International, a leading aircraft engine manufacturer, has teamed up with Avolon, an international aircraft leasing company, to supply 80 CFM International LEAP-1B engines for Avolon’s recent order of 40 Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft. The delivery of these new aircraft is scheduled between 2027 and 2030. Avolon has been a CFM customer since its inception in 2010 and currently has over 400 CFM-powered aircraft in its portfolio. This collaboration further solidifies their partnership and underscores Avolon’s commitment to incorporating advanced technology and fuel-efficient aircraft into its fleet.

The LEAP engine family, known for its advanced features, has achieved remarkable milestones in commercial aviation. With more than 33 million engine flight hours and 15 million flight cycles, it holds the record for the fastest accumulations of flight hours. Since its introduction, the LEAP-1B engine has amassed over 10.5 million flight hours and 4 million cycles.

Gaël Méheust, president & CEO, CFM International said, “We are pleased to partner with Avolon and grateful for their continued confidence in the LEAP engine. The LEAP-1B is performing exceptionally well in commercial service, delivering outstanding fuel efficiency and utilization as we promised to our customers.”

In addition to its exceptional performance, the LEAP engine offers notable environmental benefits. It provides a fuel consumption improvement of 15 to 20 percent, resulting in lower CO2 emissions compared to previous-generation engines. Moreover, it significantly reduces noise levels, enhancing the overall passenger experience. The adoption of the LEAP engine has played a vital role in reducing carbon emissions. Since its service entry in 2016, it has enabled Avolon’s customers to save more than 20 million tons of CO2 compared to flights operated using aircraft powered by older engines, contributing to a greener and more sustainable aviation industry.

Andy Cronin, CEO, Avolon said, “We are delighted to continue our long-term standing relationship with CFM. This commitment reinforces Avolon’s efforts to increase the proportion of new-technology, fuel-efficient aircraft in our fleet, leveraging the 737 MAX’s utilization of the latest LEAP-1B engines.”
