CDB Aviation completes Boeing 787-9 sale and leaseback deal with Lufthansa Airlines

CDB Aviation has entered into a sale and leaseback agreement with Lufthansa for two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, marking the lessor’s first direct leasing transaction with the German flag carrier.

The Irish-based aircraft leasing company, a wholly owned subsidiary of China Development Bank Financial Leasing Co., Ltd., announced that Lufthansa had taken delivery of the two widebody aircraft in late 2025 and early 2026. The aircraft will be deployed on the airline’s long-haul network. Both Boeing 787-9s are equipped with Lufthansa’s new Allegris cabin interior, offering enhanced passenger comfort across the Business, Premium Economy, and Economy cabins.

Gavan Daly, Head of Commercial, EMEA at CDB Aviation, described the agreement as a significant milestone in the company’s growth strategy.

“This sale and leaseback agreement with Lufthansa represents a key transaction for CDB Aviation, as we continue to grow the portfolio with top-tier credits and new technology, liquid assets,” Daly said.

He noted that while CDB Aviation has previously worked with Lufthansa Group through its engine leasing business and aircraft sales involving Austrian Airlines and Eurowings, the latest deal represents its first direct aircraft leasing partnership with Lufthansa.

The agreement further expands CDB Aviation’s portfolio of next-generation aircraft leased to leading global airlines. It follows a series of recent lessor transactions, including the delivery of a seventh Airbus A320neo to China Southern Airlines and the handover of an Airbus A321neo to LATAM Airlines Group under a broader five-aircraft lease agreement signed earlier this year.

The Lufthansa transaction underscores the continued demand for fuel-efficient, long-range aircraft as airlines modernize their fleets and enhance the passenger experience on international routes.
