Caerdav Expands with new Maintenance Line at St. Athan
Caerdav established a dedicated line maintenance station at Cardiff Airport in May. The company currently employs approximately 180 personnel, spanning from hangar staff to senior management.

Caerdav expands St Athan Facility, increasing Maintenance Capacity by 50% with new Line Maintenance.

Caerdav will open a third maintenance line at its St Athan base, expanding its in-house capabilities and supporting business growth. After extensive remodelling of one hangar to accommodate an additional Boeing 737 or Airbus A320, the new line will boost Caerdav’s maintenance capacity by 50%. Scheduled to open later this year, available slots are already booking up. The company is recruiting about 50 new technical staff to support the increased workload.

Chris Coleman, Managing Director at Caerdav, said “The opening of a third line is an important milestone in the evolution of the business and is the latest stage of a structured growth strategy we’ve been implementing over the past few years. With the likes of Ryanair now returning to us year on year, we wanted to increase capacity to facilitate the additional aircraft that work entails. It’s a chance for us to showcase our ambition to become a leading independent MRO in the global market.”

Alongside the third line, Caerdav has also significantly invested in its back shop capabilities and workshop space. This expansion supports a wider range of on-site maintenance activities. Consequently, the newly expanded maintenance scope allows Caerdav to perform most associated checks in-house. This development, therefore, improves efficiencies and decreases turnaround times for customer aircraft, streamlining operations and enhancing service quality.

Chris Coleman, Managing Director at Caerdav, added “To support the third line, improved back shop facilities and additional maintenance capabilities, we operate an improved seven-day shift structure that means the business is now operational seven days a week – it’s a hugely exciting time for the company.”

As part of its continued evolution, Caerdav launched a dedicated line maintenance station at Cardiff Airport in May. Additionally, the business employs around 180 people, from the hangar floor to senior leadership. Moreover, Caerdav plans to recruit up to 50 more staff by year-end. The company also supports 24 apprentice Aerospace Engineers, with a new intake scheduled for September.
