Boeing received a $178 mn contract for seven MH-139A helicopters to provide ongoing support and training for the U.S. Air Force adding to the existing order of 26 following the successful maiden flight of the first production helicopoter in December 2023.

Boeing has recently been granted a $178 million contract to manufacture seven MH-139A helicopters and provide ongoing support and training for the U.S. Air Force. This new contract adds to the existing order, bringing the total number of contracted aircraft to 26. This contract award follows the successful maiden flight of the first production aircraft in December 2023. Currently, the first production helicopter is undergoing additional testing, while others are at various stages of production. Boeing remains on schedule to deliver the first LRIP (Low-Rate Initial Production) aircraft to the Air Force this summer.

“Building the Grey Wolf fleet and paving the way towards full rate production is a critical step in supporting the Air Force’s modernization priorities,” said Azeem Khan, MH-139 program director, Boeing. “Delivering on these commitments and getting more capability into the hands of our customers is important to their mission protecting vital national assets,” he further added.

The MH-139 is a versatile helicopter designed for a range of missions, including patrol, search and rescue, as well as troop and cargo transport. It is based on the proven Leonardo Helicopters AW139 platform and has been outfitted with specialized military equipment by Boeing. The MH-139 incorporates cutting-edge technology that enables operators to execute missions swiftly, quietly, efficiently, and safely.
