Southwest Airlines has ordered over 300 737-7 aircraft, expanding its orderbook to more than 500 units of 737 MAX jets.

Boeing and Southwest announced a commitment to efficient fuel use by ordering 108 units of the 737 MAX family, supporting its modernization strategy and flexibility to increase its fleet. The launch customer for the 737-7 increases variants in the order book for more than 300 units. Southwest Airlines depends on the 737 MAX for fuel efficiency and reliability to increase and modernize its fleet.

Bob Jordan, president and chief executive officer of Southwest Airlines, said, “We have a long history with Boeing, dating back more than 50 years to the day we commenced service with three Boeing 737 aircraft serving three cities. They’re part of our history and part of our future as we continue to recognize the many efficiencies and cost savings of a single fleet.”

Southwest Airlines has ordered over 300 737-7 aircraft, expanding its orderbook to more than 500 units of 737 MAX jets. The 737 family has been a part of Southwest Airlines by enhancing its continuous growth. Once it gets certified, the 737-7 will become a part of the carrier’s all-Boeing 737 fleet.
