Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co., Ltd. (BSAS) has inaugurated a new state-of-the-art maintenance hangar in Shanghai, marking a significant expansion of its MRO capabilities and reinforcing its commitment to supporting both domestic and international airline customers.
Located within Shanghai’s Lingang Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone, the new facility represents a major milestone for BSAS, which has been serving the aviation industry for more than two decades from its base at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.
The newly opened hangar has been designed to accommodate up to four widebody aircraft and two narrowbody aircraft simultaneously, significantly increasing the company’s maintenance capacity at a time when airlines across the Asia-Pacific region are seeking additional MRO support to manage growing fleets and rising maintenance demand.
Expanding capacity for a growing market
The new hangar is equipped with advanced workshops, engineering support infrastructure, and maintenance facilities that will enable BSAS to provide a comprehensive range of services, including aircraft maintenance, modifications, engineering support, and aircraft material management.
According to the company, the expanded facility will enhance operational efficiency while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and technical excellence.
With airlines continuing to face capacity constraints across global MRO networks, the additional hangar space is expected to help reduce turnaround times and improve service availability for customers operating both widebody and narrowbody fleets.
One of China’s largest single-span MRO hangars
BSAS noted that the new hangar is the largest single-span structure of its kind in China, providing substantially greater operational flexibility than its previous facility.
The increased footprint and modern infrastructure are expected to strengthen the company’s ability to support a broader range of aircraft maintenance programmes, from routine checks to complex modification projects.
The investment also reflects growing confidence in the long-term expansion of China’s aviation sector, where fleet growth and increasing aircraft utilisation are driving demand for advanced maintenance capabilities.
Commenting on the development, Mark Sisson, CEO of BSAS, said the new facility demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to operational excellence and customer support. He noted that the expanded hangar capacity will allow BSAS to provide faster turnaround times, deeper technical support, and enhanced service offerings for airline customers. “The opening of this new hangar represents an important step in our growth journey and reinforces our commitment to delivering high-quality MRO solutions to the aviation industry,” he said.
Strengthening China’s MRO ecosystem
The opening of the new hangar further strengthens Shanghai’s position as a key aviation maintenance hub in Asia and highlights the continued investment being made in MRO infrastructure across the region.
As airlines focus on fleet expansion and operational reliability, facilities such as the new BSAS hangar will play an increasingly important role in supporting aircraft availability, reducing maintenance bottlenecks, and meeting the evolving needs of global airline operators.
With enhanced capacity, modern infrastructure, and expanded technical capabilities, Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services is positioning itself to support the next phase of growth in both China’s and the wider Asia-Pacific aviation maintenance market.
