Boeing commences construction of latest Phantom Works facility

Boeing commences construction of latest Phantom Works facility.
The establishment of the Advanced Coatings Center is part of Boeing's substantial investment in new facilities within its defense business.

With a total area of 47,500 square feet, the construction phase of the Boeing Phantom Works facility is currently underway, and it is expected to become operational by 2025.

Boeing has initiated the construction of a new facility that will serve as an Advanced Coatings Center for the post-assembly phases of future military aircraft production. This state-of-the-art facility will be operated by Phantom Works, Boeing Defense, Space & Security’s proprietary research, development, and prototyping division. With a total area of 47,500 square feet, the construction phase of the facility is currently underway, and it is expected to become operational by 2025.

The establishment of the Advanced Coatings Center is part of Boeing’s substantial investment in new facilities within its defense business. This investment aims not only to secure future franchise programs but, more importantly, to enable the United States to maintain a competitive edge against increasingly capable and aggressive adversaries. Steve Nordlund, Vice President and General Manager of Air Dominance and Senior Site Executive in St. Louis, emphasized the importance of this investment.

“As we pivot toward future programs, Boeing’s defense business is in the midst of one of the most significant investments in new facilities in our history,” said Steve Nordlund, Air Dominance vice president and general manager, and St. Louis senior site executive, Boeing. “This investment is not only to win new future franchise programs but, more importantly, to enable the United States to outpace increasingly capable and aggressive adversaries. We are revolutionizing how aircraft are designed, built and delivered because the threats demand it,” he further added.

The Advanced Coatings Center represents the third facility unveiled under Phantom Works’ multi-billion-dollar Production System of the Future initiative. This effort allows Boeing to implement a platform-agnostic, modular, and flexible digital production system across future defense programs. In recent months, the company inaugurated the Advanced Composite Fabrication Center in Mesa, Arizona, and established a Lab and Test facility in St. Louis. Furthermore, Boeing has plans to construct additional factories to support various production phases in the coming years.

Mike Parson, Governor, Missouri said, “This facility is great news for Missouri and for our nation. This new facility shows our commitment to growth and our investment in the talented workforce.”
