Boeing and Lufthansa Technik Partner to Enhance 787 Cabin Modifications
Lufthansa Technik certifies modification projects and conducts cabin upgrades for the popular long-haul widebody 787 at its global network facilities.

As a BLSC for 787 cabin modifications, Lufthansa Technik provides complete services from cabin interior design to engineering and integration tailored to customer specifications.

Boeing and Lufthansa Technik have formalized an agreement designating Lufthansa Technik as the inaugural Boeing-licensed Service Center (BLSC) for cabin modifications on Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.  As a BLSC, Lufthansa Technik is authorized to conduct interior modifications on the 787 as an external provider of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services.  This designation enhances market options and operational capabilities. The announcement was jointly made at the Farnborough International Airshow.

Operators, lessors, and other entities requiring cabin modifications for Boeing 787 aircraft now have the option to engage with Lufthansa Technik. As a Boeing-licensed Service Center (BLSC) for 787 cabin modifications, Lufthansa Technik offers comprehensive services including cabin interior design, associated engineering, and integration tailored to customer specifications. In addition to its Boeing license, Lufthansa Technik assumes responsibility for certifying modification projects. These cabin upgrades for the widely-used long-haul widebody aircraft will be conducted at Lufthansa Technik’s facilities within its extensive global network.

Harald Gloy, Chief Operating Officer at Lufthansa Technik, said, “This is a great endorsement from Boeing of Lufthansa Technik’s outstanding cabin modification services. Customers looking to modify the interior of their Dreamliner will be able to find the full range of services from us. As Boeing’s licensed Service Center for cabin modification of the 787, we are pleased to contribute our expertise in this area and to create additional capacity in the market as the world’s largest MRO provider.”

Both parties are actively preparing to facilitate Lufthansa Technik’s commencement of its initial 787 cabin modification project by 2025. This BLSC initiative will expand the market capacity of Boeing’s 787 Interior Modifications portfolio.

Doug Backhus, Vice President of Boeing Cabins, Modifications, and Maintenance, said, “We are pleased to bring additional interior modification capacity to 787 owners and operators by designating Lufthansa Technik as the first Boeing Licensed Service Center. Through this novel collaboration, customers will benefit from Lufthansa Technik’s decades of MRO experience, and familiarity with the 787 platform.”
