airHaifa begins operations with ATR 72-600, enhancing Northern Israel’s connectivity and promoting low-emission, cost-effective regional aviation.

ATR, the leading global manufacturer of regional aircraft, and airHaifa, Israel’s new startup airline, have announced the delivery of their first ATR 72-600. This delivery follows a firm order placed in 2023. This partnership highlights airHaifa’s commitment to operational excellence, regional connectivity, and low-emission aviation. Specifically, the airline will utilize the latest generation of turboprop aircraft to achieve these goals.

The delivery of the first ATR 72-600 allows airHaifa to begin its commercial operations from Haifa International Airport. As a result, the airline will enhance convenience for approximately three million residents in northern Israel. These residents find Haifa International Airport more accessible than Ben Gurion International Airport. Furthermore, airHaifa will offer regular and cost-effective flights to high-demand destinations across the Mediterranean and Red Sea.

Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, ATR’s Chief Executive Officer, said, “This new order from airHaifa for two ATR 72-600, with one delivered today and the second scheduled for delivery in 2025, marks an important milestone in our efforts to enhance regional connectivity worldwide. ATR has a strong reputation and a proven track record in the regional aircraft market, making it the ideal partner for startup airlines looking to benefit from the expertise, experience and support of a well-established aircraft manufacturer, which are invaluable during the initial stages of launching operations.”

The ATR 72-600 aircraft features the latest PW127XT-M engines. These engines enhance reliability, passenger comfort, and operational efficiency. Additionally, they reduce CO2 emissions significantly. Specifically, the advanced technology enables a 45% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to similar-sized regional jets. Consequently, the aircraft emits only 69 grams of CO2 per seat per kilometer.

ATR aircraft, designed for regional operations, are ideal for startup airlines aiming to enhance regional connectivity while managing expenses. In 2023, ATR opened 160 new routes. Consequently, they solidified their position as the backbone of domestic and regional fleets worldwide. With lower operating costs and 40% greater cost-efficiency compared to regional jets, they offers startups a unique value proposition. Therefore, startups can mitigate costs and achieve a low cost per trip.

Gonen Usishkin, Chief Executive Officer of airHaifa, said, “We are beyond excited to take delivery of the first aircraft of our fleet and achieve a major milestone as we ramp up to providing commercial services. We focus on sustainable development, passenger satisfaction, and regional connectivity; by building our fleet around the ATR 72-600 aircraft, we will continue to actively contribute to our region’s economic prosperity and provide our customers with affordable, reliable, convenient and socially responsible means of transport.”
