Atlas Air completes strategic investment in Air Atlanta, acquires 49% stake

Atlas Air Worldwide has completed its previously announced strategic investment in Air Atlanta, acquiring a 49% minority equity stake in the global aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) and aircraft management provider.

The investment establishes a long-term strategic partnership aimed at expanding Atlas Air’s global operating platform and increasing access to widebody aircraft capacity across key international markets.

Air Atlanta will continue to operate under its existing leadership team and organisational structure, with the current management retaining a 51% controlling interest in the airline operating companies.

As part of the transaction, Atlas, through its subsidiary Titan Aviation Holdings, has acquired the aircraft owned by the Air Atlanta group and will lease them back to the airline companies for continued operations. Air Atlanta currently operates a fleet of 14 widebody freighters, including Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 aircraft, along with four Boeing 777 passenger aircraft.

Michael Steen, CEO of Atlas Air Worldwide, said the completion of the investment marks an important milestone for both companies.

“We are pleased to complete our previously announced strategic investment in Air Atlanta and welcome the Air Atlanta team as a valued partner. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to delivering exceptional service to customers and supporting the long-term success of both organisations,” Steen said.

Alex Harman, Director of Atlas and Managing Partner at J.F. Lehman & Company (JFLCO), said the partnership brings together two established operators with complementary capabilities and aligns with Atlas’ long-term growth strategy.

He added that the investment provides a strong foundation for future expansion while creating opportunities to strengthen both companies’ positions in the global aviation market.
