Astronics Introduces Groundbreaking NG1 Avionics IO Converter
The NG1 resides within a robust, low-SWaP (Size, Weight, and Power) enclosure, adhering to rigorous military criteria for shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, and pressure.

Astronics Corporation unveils the Ballard NG1 Series Avionics I/O Converter for efficient data conversion in aircraft environments.

Astronics Corporation, renowned for its advanced aerospace and defense technologies, has introduced the Ballard NG1 Series Avionics I/O Converter (NG1). The NG1 is designed for rugged aircraft environments, providing straightforward conversion of avionics data. Additionally, it streams this data over Ethernet efficiently. The NG1 enhances efficiency in distributed control and remote I/O applications. Furthermore, it reduces expenses and accelerates deployment on C4ISR systems.

The NG1 features a rugged, low-SWaP enclosure. Moreover, it meets stringent military standards for shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, and pressure. Additionally, it comes pre-validated through comprehensive MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, and DO-160 testing to ensure swift deployment and reliability.

Jon Neal, President of Astronics AES, said, “The NG1 is a groundbreaking embedded Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS) device with unbeatable performance and flexibility. This problem-solving tool not only converts and streams avionics data to Ethernet with a simple setup, but it can also run powerful custom application software.  It features the industry’s leading combination of small size, light weight, and rugged construction for use in tight aircraft and UAV environments.”

The NG1 is engineered as a flight-ready device to streamline avionics I/O expansion and integration with mission computing systems. Due to its ultra-compact form factor, the NG1 facilitates close proximity to data sources, supporting essential I/O such as MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, serial, CANBus, and discrete interfaces. This feature enhances its capability to efficiently handle avionics data conversion and streaming over Ethernet. In default operation, the NG1 efficiently converts avionics protocol data to and from Ethernet in real time. Furthermore, it requires no custom code for seamless functionality.
