AMETEK MRO Muirhead Avionics, a prominent provider of aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services, has appointed David Bentley as the Vice President & Business Unit Manager for its UK operations. Bentley, who previously held responsibilities for AMETEK MRO’s businesses in the American Midwest, brings over two decades of MRO experience to his new role. His focus centers on operational expenditure, a crucial aspect of the MRO industry, and he is set to leverage this expertise as he joins Muirhead Avionics during a pivotal period in the company’s history.

With an impressive track record spanning 73 years, Muirhead Avionics boasts a robust customer base and extensive experience servicing more than 7,000 avionic control components across a diverse range of aircraft types worldwide. From instruments and indicators to radar systems, cockpit controls, navigation aids, and more, the company has established itself as a key player in the aviation industry’s MRO landscape.

A significant development in AMETEK MRO’s trajectory involves the relocation of its Florida business to the UK, a transition that falls under Bentley’s purview. This strategic integration will significantly enhance the company’s capabilities by encompassing Inertial Reference Units (IRUs), Multi-function Control & Display Units (MCDUs), autopilot systems, cockpit displays, and more.

David Bentley, Vice President & Business Unit Manager for its UK operations, AMETEK MRO Muirhead Avionics said, “The Muirhead Avionics business has an impressive 73-year history. “Our customer base is robust and we have experience on more than 7,000 avionic control components over a wide range of the world’s aircraft types including: instruments/indicators, weather and mission radar, audio and cockpit controls, ground support equipment, repair management, navigation and communication aids, flight data & cockpit recorder analysis and repair. This integration will significantly enhance our capabilities to include IRUs (Inertial Refence Units), MCDUs (Multi-function Control & Display Units), autopilot and cockpit displays. “We aim to solve our customers’ requirements through continuous improvements that save costs via our ‘repair versus replace’ philosophy. Muirhead Avionics already has multiple approvals from the world’s largest OEMs to repair their components, and as we look to further enhance what we can offer, we will search for opportunities to grow organically and through acquisitions.”

The forthcoming move of the Muirhead Avionics facility to a state-of-the-art location near London Heathrow signifies an exciting phase of expansion. This new space will not only accommodate increased repair capabilities but will also provide room for further growth and innovation. Bentley is committed to streamlining processes and expanding the customer base, emphasizing continuous improvements that yield cost savings through the “repair versus replace” philosophy.

Muirhead Avionics is already renowned for its excellence in the commercial aviation sector. However, the company aims to extend its specialized MRO services into the military arena. Focusing on supporting legacy aircraft and cultivating Approved Repair Centre (ARC) partnerships, Muirhead Avionics is poised to navigate new challenges under Bentley’s leadership.
