Altitude Angel Revamps GoDrone App for Airspace Safety
The comprehensive update for the GoDrone app, available on iOS and Android, introduces enhanced integrated flight planning and advanced flight plan drawing tools.

Altitude Angel and LVNL launch GoDrone 2.0, enhancing safety and access in Dutch Airspace.

Netherlands ANSP LVNL and Altitude Angel, the leading UTM technology provider, recently announced the re-launch of the GoDrone flight planning app. Since 2020, this app, developed and powered by Altitude Angel, has been the preferred choice for both professional and recreational drone pilots in the Netherlands. Furthermore, it has consistently provided reliable tools and features for navigating Dutch airspace. The introduction of GoDrone 2.0 brings new features, upgrades, and data sets, improving users’ understanding of the Netherlands’ airspace. This enhances their ability to navigate and operate drones safely and effectively.

The Flight Approval Service has introduced new and innovative features. Moreover, the approval process for flying within the CTR for drones now includes an additional status for mission plans. The status ‘reviewed’ is granted when a mission plan is provisionally accepted by LVNL’s Operational Helpdesk. Upon receiving air traffic control approval on the day of the flight, the mission plan officially achieves ‘approved’ status. This status grants the drone pilot direct communication access to the tower, facilitating seamless interaction during flights.

Maartje van der Helm, LVNL, General Manager Performance and Development, said, “Providing accurate information aimed at the drone community is essential to ensure safe aviation in controlled airspace. Using user panels, we collected information and feedback from drone community to optimize the information provisionWith the further development of GoDrone, we are taking steps towards safer flight movements of unmanned and manned traffic in controlled Dutch airspace.”

Available on iOS and Android, the extensive update includes a suite of updated features for the GoDrone app. Furthermore, it encompasses enhanced integrated flight planning and advanced flight plan drawing tools. Moreover, the app now provides Flight Approval services, allowing users to digitally request access to restricted airspace. This includes areas like airport CTR, marking a significant advancement in drone flight management.

Paul deHaan, Altitude Angel (Netherlands), Managing Director, added, “The updated GoDrone app was designed with two things in mind: user experience and safer skies. The engineering team at Altitude Angel re-designed the app after collating, analysing and understand user feedback. These improvements will further enable the growth and commercial opportunities for unmanned aviation in the Netherlands.”
