Airbus has confirmed an additional order of 15 more A220-300 jets along with an existing deal for 45 A220-300 aircraft from Air Canada, the Canadian flag carrier.
Airbus has confirmed an addition of 15 more A220-300 jets to an already existing order for 45 A220-300 aircraft from Air Canada, the Canadian flag carrier. Air Canada commenced its A220 service in January 2020 and currently operates over 30 Airbus A220s on transcontinental routes in Canada, as well as to the U.S. and Latin America. The Canadian national airline took delivery of its first Airbus A220-300 in December 2019 and was the first airline to operate this model in North America. The latest addition brings the total firm order from an initial 40 to 60 aircraft.
Developed from a clean-sheet design, the Airbus A220 is the only aircraft purpose-built for the 100-150 seat market, bringing together innovative design features and state-of-the-art aerodynamics. The A220 is powered by Pratt & Whitney’s latest-generation GTF engines. Air Canada currently operates a fleet of over 125 Airbus aircraft, including 78 A320 Family aircraft, 16 A330 Family aircraft and 31 A220-300 aircraft. Air Canada also has placed a direct order for 10 A321 XLRs.

The Airbus A220 offers a 25 percent lower fuel burn and CO2 emissions per seat compared to previous-generation aircraft. The A220, according to Airbus, is the most eco-efficient aircraft in its category in addition to around 50 percent lower NOx emissions than industry standards. The A220 also provides unmatched comfort to travelers with 20 percent more overhead stowage space per passenger, the widest seats and the largest windows in its class.

Airbus has delivered over 220 A220s aircraft to 16 airlines operating on four continents and connecting more than 70 million people across the globe. The fleet is currently flying on over 800 routes and 325 destinations worldwide, efficiently connecting passengers on regional and long-distance routes. As of the end of September 2022, more than 25 customers had ordered over 770 A220 aircraft – confirming its strong position in the small single-aisle market.
