Airbus delivers 547 aircraft in 2026 as September deliveries reach 72

Airbus delivered 72 commercial aircraft to 37 customers in September 2026, bringing its total deliveries for the first nine months of the year to 547 aircraft, according to the manufacturer’s latest orders and deliveries update. The company recorded 17 gross orders during the month, reflecting a slower pace of new business compared with earlier periods in 2026.

The September performance brings Airbus’s year-to-date deliveries to 8% above the 507 aircraft delivered during the same period in 2025. However, the manufacturer faces a demanding final quarter as it works towards its full-year delivery target of 850–870 aircraft.

A320neo Family Leads Airbus Deliveries

The A320neo family continued to account for the largest share of Airbus deliveries in September, with 59 aircraft handed over, including 37 A321neos, 21 A320neos and one A319neo.

The manufacturer also delivered eight A220-300s, three A350-900s and two A330-900s during the month. The delivery mix highlights the continued importance of single-aisle aircraft in meeting airline demand for fleet expansion and replacement, while widebody deliveries support long-haul fleet renewal.

IndiGo was among the largest recipients in September, taking delivery of seven A321neos and three A320neos. Other deliveries included aircraft for Delta Air Lines, American Airlines, Air Canada and Breeze Airways.

September Orders Total 17 Aircraft

Airbus recorded 17 gross orders in September, comprising 15 A320neo aircraft ordered by Air Cairo and two A321neos ordered by FLYONE Armenia.

The monthly total was lower than the 67 gross orders recorded in August. Nevertheless, Airbus’s cumulative gross orders reached 1,174 aircraft by the end of September, while net orders after cancellations stood at 1,105.

The September order activity was concentrated in the A320neo family, with no new orders recorded for the A220, A330 or A350 programmes during the month.

Aircraft Backlog Remains Above 9,300

Airbus ended September with a commercial aircraft backlog of 9,310 aircraft, down from 9,368 at the end of August. The change reflects aircraft deliveries and adjustments to existing orders, including three net cancellations involving the A220-300.

The backlog underscores the scale of aircraft production and delivery commitments facing the manufacturer as airlines continue to seek new aircraft amid fleet expansion and replacement requirements.

Across its commercial aircraft programmes, Airbus has accumulated 26,615 orders and 17,305 deliveries since the beginning of its programmes. A total of 14,593 aircraft are currently listed as being in service, according to the company’s cumulative figures.

A320 Family Dominates Cumulative Orders

The A320 family remains Airbus’s largest commercial aircraft programme, with 20,435 cumulative orders and 12,900 deliveries. The A220 programme has recorded 1,107 orders and 550 deliveries.

Among widebody aircraft, the A330 programme has accumulated 2,005 orders and 1,674 deliveries, while the A350 has recorded 1,624 orders and 737 deliveries. The A380 programme has reached 251 orders and 251 deliveries.

With 547 aircraft delivered through September, Airbus must significantly increase its monthly delivery rate in the final quarter to reach its annual target. Production ramp-up, supplier performance, and the timely completion of aircraft will remain important factors in determining the company’s year-end delivery performance.
