ITA Airways has welcomed its first A330-900 aircraft, leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC) in a delivery ceremony held in Toulouse, the airline already operates 68 Airbus planes.
Airbus has announced that ITA Airways, the national carrier of Italy, has welcomed its first A330-900 aircraft, leased from Air Lease Corporation (ALC), in a delivery ceremony held in Toulouse. This A330neo will join ITA Airways’ fleet in June and serve its long-haul routes as well as new intercontinental destinations. By adding the A330neo to its fleet, ITA Airways strengthens its commitment to being an all Airbus operator, as it already operates all Airbus aircraft families with a fleet of 68 Airbus planes. This move allows the airline to benefit from enhanced efficiency and flexibility.
In line with ITA Airways’ sustainability goals, the introduction of the A330neo marks another step in the airline’s fleet modernization efforts. To support its ambition for sustainability, the delivery flight of the A330neo will be powered by a 16% blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The A330neo brings outstanding operating economics to ITA Airways and offers passengers a superior travel experience. It features the award-winning Airspace cabin, which provides more passenger space, a new lighting system, state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment, and comprehensive cabin connectivity.
ITA Airways has named its A330neo “Gelindo Bordin,” in honor of the Italian Olympic marathon champion. The aircraft will have a three-class cabin layout designed by renowned designer Walter De Silva. It will include 30 fully lie-flat bed business class seats, 24 premium seats, and 237 economy class seats, including 36 comfort economy seats. Passengers in all classes will enjoy on-demand video and audio content, full WiFi connectivity, and customizable mood lighting throughout the cabin.
The A330neo is the next-generation version of the popular A330 widebody aircraft. It incorporates advanced features such as the latest-generation Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, new wings, and aerodynamic innovations. These advancements contribute to a remarkable 25% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The A330-900 has a non-stop range of 7,200 nm / 13,334 km.

The A330 Family has garnered significant interest from the aviation industry, with over 1,775 firm orders to date, including 289 A330neo orders from 25 customers. Globally, 100 A330neos have been delivered so far. The addition of the A330neo to ITA Airways’ fleet represents a significant milestone in the airline’s growth and commitment to providing a sustainable and enjoyable travel experience for its passengers.
