Air New Zealand appoints former Air India CEO Campbell Wilson to board

Former Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson has joined Air New Zealand as a Director on its Board, effective 24 September, subject to shareholder approval at the airline’s Annual Shareholders’ Meeting.

Wilson joins the Board at a critical time for the New Zealand flag carrier as it navigates delayed aircraft deliveries, ongoing engine availability challenges, and elevated fuel costs that continue to pressure airline operations and maintenance planning.

A New Zealand native with more than three decades of aviation experience, Wilson stepped down from Air India earlier this year after leading the Tata-owned airline through a period of large-scale fleet renewal, operational transformation, and network expansion.

Before joining Air India in 2022, Wilson spent much of his career with Singapore Airlines, where he held several senior leadership positions, including Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He also founded and led Scoot, the airline group’s low-cost carrier, helping establish its commercial strategy and operational framework.

Beyond airline leadership, Wilson has played an active role in the wider aviation industry, serving on the Board of Directors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and as a Board Executive Committee member of both the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA) and Star Alliance.

Air New Zealand‘s Board appointments come as airlines worldwide continue to adapt to persistent fleet availability constraints driven by aircraft delivery delays and engine maintenance backlogs, making experienced operational leadership increasingly valuable as carriers balance capacity growth with long-term maintenance planning.

In addition to Wilson, the airline has also appointed former Chief Financial Officer Robert McDonald to its Board, with both appointments taking effect following shareholder approval in September.
