Air Austral has selected Thales’ AVIATOR 200S cockpit satellite communication system for its Airbus A320neo fleet, strengthening aircraft connectivity and operational capabilities.
The deployment of Thales’ Cockpit Satcom system is part of Air Austral’s efforts to modernise its fleet with advanced communication technologies. The AVIATOR 200S is designed to enhance cockpit connectivity while supporting evolving operational requirements.
Compared with legacy systems, the AVIATOR 200S provides two separate aircraft communication network domains and can deliver up to 80 times higher data-transfer capacity. The system also supports approved secure IP-based ACARS/SATVOICE safety services through VPN/IPsec.

Thales said the system offers favourable size, weight and power (SWaP) characteristics for a Swift Broadband Safety (SB-S) system. It is also designed to support future i4D/4D trajectory-based operations, including continental SESAR Iris and FAA NextGen programmes, as well as oceanic operations.
The adoption marks another step in Air Austral’s fleet modernisation strategy, while providing enhanced communications infrastructure to support current and future cockpit operations.
