Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) and Philippine Airlines (PAL) have announced a new engine support agreement, solidifying their partnership in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector. The agreement covers 32 CFM56-5B engines that power PAL’s fleet of Airbus A320ceo aircraft. AFI KLM E&M has been PAL’s MRO partner for several years, previously providing maintenance services for GE90 engines on PAL’s long-haul Boeing 777 aircraft. The expanded collaboration now includes a wide range of work scopes for the CFM56-5Bs, both in-shop and on-site.

The maintenance program encompasses 10 shop visits and 22 Quick Turn operations, some of which will be conducted using the On-Site configuration at PAL’s engineering facilities in Manila. This new agreement strengthens the longstanding relationship between AFI KLM E&M and PAL, which already included engine support for GE90 and CFM56-5B products, as well as Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) support for PAL’s 777 and A330 fleets. Throughout the pandemic, AFI KLM E&M demonstrated its adaptability by providing tailored responses to PAL’s evolving needs during a challenging restructuring phase.

Alvin Limqueco, Acting CFO and SVP Supply Chain Management of Philippine Airlines, emphasized the importance of having a reliable and attentive partner like AFI KLM E&M during both prosperous and challenging times. He highlighted the role of AFI KLM E&M in supporting PAL’s recovery and renewal, as the airline restores its broad-scale maintenance operations to connect the Philippines with the world, fostering tourism and economic growth.

Alvin Limqueco, Acting CFO and SVP Supply Chain Management, Philippine Airlines said, “It is important for our airline to be able to rely on a stable partner that is attentive to our specific needs and goals, in both good times and bad. Having remained by our side during the upheavals of the global health crisis, AFI KLM E&M is now supporting the recovery and renewal of Philippine Airlines, which involves the re-activation of broad-scale maintenance operations. We look forward to continued solid cooperation with AFI KLM E&M as we carry out PAL’s mission of connecting the Philippines with the world in a way that boosts tourism and economic growth.”

The CFM56-5B work scopes, customized to PAL’s requirements, will be complemented by the provision of two spare engines and access to the Prognos for Engines predictive maintenance system. This comprehensive support package aims to optimize asset availability and minimize the cost of ownership for PAL.

Pierre Teboul, SVP Commercial at AFI KLM E&M said, “we are delighted to be writing a new chapter in our long history of cooperation with Philippine Airlines. Over the years our respective teams have developed a close-knit relationship built on mutual trust, enabling us to form solid partnerships and to work together to design solutions to enhance PAL’s operational performance.”

Pierre Teboul, SVP Commercial at AFI KLM E&M, expressed his delight in continuing the long-standing cooperation with Philippine Airlines. He emphasized the close-knit relationship and mutual trust that have developed between the teams over the years, enabling the formation of solid partnerships and collaborative solutions to enhance PAL’s operational performance.
